KOSMOS keynotes - frontal

Prominent speakers frame the conference and set its central topics in KOSMOS keynotes: from the icebreaker on the first evening to the opening speeches in the mornings to the closing speech at the end. See videos here.
 

expert forum - oral presentations (conference talks) - frontal, interactive

The expert forum serves to deepen the discussion of selected topics arranged into three 90 minutes blocks and one 60 minutes block with each 3 to 4 presentations. Each expert forum consists of a presentation to introduce the topic and further scientific contributions in the form of oral presentations, each followed by a short moderated discussion. Six parallel expert forum panels are offered at the same time. All scientists, from early career researchers to well established senior scientists are encouraged to present their work at the expert forums.

The six topical expert forum sessions are:

 

poster session (presentation of scientific work, poster contribution) - interactive

The interactive poster session provides the opportunity to present advances in science, ongoing projects and recent results in the form of scientific posters in a sociable atmosphere with beer and wine. The poster session is organized along the topics of the expert forums. It will also provide the space to host all contributions that cannot be accommodated as oral presentations in the expert forum. Scientific poster contributions are welcome from all scientific disciplines.

Topics of the posters should should orientate on the six topical export forum sessions:

 

public KOSMOS lecture - frontal, public

The KOSMOS lecture is a public evening lecture that addresses both, the conference participants and the citizens of Berlin. It revives Alexander von Humboldt's famous KOSMOS lectures. The KOSMOS lecture that is part of the Conference program was given by Anne Christin Mittwoch on Thursday, August, 29th, 2019, at 19:00.

The lecture is part of the conference and also part of the KOSMOS lecture series which covers the entire anniversary year on the occasion of Humboldt's 250th birthday. See video here.

 

bar camp and market place - frontal, public, interactive

At the bar camp, the audience itself decides which lecture to bring on stage. Pre-registered researchers will briefly present their lecture topics, but only those with the most applause will be allowed to present. All others may communicate their topics at the following market place at bar tables as short impulses.

We encourage early career scientists, postdocs, doctoral students but also students working on their master thesis to present their research in this format. If you are interested in this format please submit your proposal regularly via the abstract submission tool. Additionally, please drop a line in the abstract that you wish to be part of the bar camp competition and/or additionally send us an email.

 

treasure quest – treasure map to sustainability - interactive

The treasure quest is an experimental workshop formats discussing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in small groups throughout the whole conference. Each team will be supported by a trained coach and finally present its results to colleagues and the public. When registering, each conference participant chooses one SDG to work on.

Here we document the outcome of the treasure quest.

 

citizen scientist speed dating - public, interactive

Within 17 parallel table sessions, the conference participants encounter citizens of Berlin in order to discuss the results of their treasure quest (see above) and to face their questions and comments. This format wants to underline the importance of dialogue when it comes to making our world more sustainable.

 

public debate - public

With the help of a professional moderation and with representatives from the citizen science table sessions (see above), the public debate wraps up the findings on the SDGs previously discussed in small groups and opens up for a joint discussion. See video here.
